Not Knowing Does Not Have to Be Stressful

Arriving  yesterday at Koningsteen where the Relational Wholebody Focusing training took place was like arriving in a different world. Peaceful, calm, hidden from the eyes of the usual hectic world around me . While the host was taking me to the right building, he asked about my drive here. It was a full of deviations. „Life is all about deviations“, he said. „As long as we know where you are going, it is fine“, I kept the conversation alive. His answer shocked me, „The beauty is in not knowing“.

I felt in my chest a hit of anxiety. Not knowing where I was going? Losing control?

And of course, it happens. There are moments in life when we feel that we have no control over the events, we get lost in ourselves. We do not know where we are going. Which eventually creates a lot of stress and anxiety.

The good news is that subconsciously we always know what we need and where we want to go. The information is already there: in our brain, in our body, in our emotions. We sometimes do not see them, because our brain has not yet made all the connections. Not knowing is actually very powerful. It gives us a freedom to be flexible in our thoughts. It is an opportunity to flexibly connect and reconnect the information and create something new that makes sense to us.

In some cases, we need special techniques  that help us making the right connections in our brain through experience.  I especially like two of them: the Wholebody Focusing that creates the connections through our body and felt senses and the Brain-Based Coaching that creates connections via our thoughts, emotions, and actions.

When you do not know where you are going, do not worry, all the information is already there. Just trust yourself, trust the journey of not knowing. The different pieces of the puzzle will eventually fit in nicely.
